2026 Chevy Silverado 1500—Frequently Asked Questions

The 2026 Silverado lineup offers multiple powertrain choices to fit different needs:

  • Gasoline engines:
    • 2.7 L TurboMax I4 — ~310 hp, ~430 lb.-ft torque (good balance of power and efficiency)
    • 5.3 L EcoTec3 V8 — ~355 hp, ~383 lb.-ft (classic V8 feel)
    • 6.2 L EcoTec3 V8 — ~420 hp, ~460 lb.-ft (strongest gasoline option)
  • Diesel:
    • 3.0 L Duramax Turbo-Diesel I6 — ~305 hp, ~495 lb.-ft (excellent torque and highway economy)
These are paired with automatic transmissions (8- or 10-speed, depending on engine).

For buyers interested in electric performance, the Silverado EV — a fully electric variant — offers powerful dual-motor options, long range (up to ~478 miles in some trims), and unique features like Terrain and Sidewinder modes (especially on Trail Boss models).

Towing and payload capacities vary significantly based on engine, drivetrain, cab/bed configuration, and packages:

  • Maximum towing: Up to 13,300 lbs when properly equipped with either the 6.2 L V8 or 3.0 L Duramax diesel (Silverado 1500).
  • Lower-rated capacities (~9,500–11,500 lbs) come with smaller engines or non-optimized configurations.

Payload can reach over 2,250 lbs on some configurations (especially with the turbo four-cylinder and proper setup).

For the Silverado EV, towing is also strong but slightly lower than the peak gas/diesel numbers: for example, some EV trims can tow up to around 12,500 lbs — with range decreasing under heavy load.

The 2026 Silverado EV is designed to compete with other electric pickups on both capability and range:

  • EPA-estimated ranges (depending on battery and trim) go up to approximately 478 miles with extended or max-range battery options on some trims like Trail Boss.
  • Real-world use (such as towing heavy trailers) can significantly reduce range — for example, towing can cut usable range by roughly half in some conditions based on user reports.

The EV also adds features like Super Cruise hands-free driving and strong torque delivery, making it both modern and capable beyond just range figures.
